The two-day meeting was hosted by the RIPE NCC and the Technical Center of Internet, with sponsors including the Internet Society, Netnod, Packet Design, and MSK-IX.

The meeting opened with a well-attended tutorial that analysed amplification attacks and covered practical DNSSEC debugging.

Presentations across both days centred on the current Internet governance landscape, network neutrality, and issues around the state versus the Internet, all of which sparked discussion between speakers and attendees. The second day included a detailed panel discussion on new generic top-level domains (TLDs), IDN acceptance and IDN mail, as well as two lightning talks – one about a new style of router called the Turris router, and the other on IPv6 statistics at the Amsterdam Internet Exchanges, AMS-IX.

Other topics of interest included a look back at RIPE’s 25 years of history by RIPE Chair Emeritus, Rob Blokzijl, and an introduction to the new RIPE Chair, Hans Petter Holen.

Reports from the RIPE NCC included an operational update by Axel Pawlik, Managing Director, on membership statistics and the financial outlook, operational improvements, the IPv6 readiness of its members, and its focus on improved documentation. Victor Naumov, a RIPE NCC developer, gave an update on new features and use cases for the RIPE NCC’s technical services, RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat. Other presentations included an overview of the RIPE NCC’s expanded regional presence and the addition of staff members based in Dubai and Moscow, and an overview of and request for feedback regarding the NTIA’s transition of its stewardship of the IANA functions, both given by Maxim Burtikov of the RIPE NCC’s External Relations team.

The meeting presentations were given in English and Russian. On-site translation facilities were provided to attendees. Most of the presentations are available online.

Video recordings of the presentations will be available soon.

More complete meeting minutes are also available.

The RIPE NCC also requested feedback from attendees on how it could improve future meetings. Feedback can be made by anyone via the online survey.

The ENOG 8/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan on 9 September 2014.
